For you newbies out there, 3D Chess must seem like a dinosaur, as it was originally made for Windows 98 and prior. It's a fun PC game dedicated to - you guessed it - chess.

If you still have a Windows 98 lying around, then you may already have the game. But if not - don't fret. You can download it here. It comes in many languages, such as French and English, and it is still being updated! The last update to this finely aged game was in June of 2011.

In the past 5 years, it has had nearly 200k downloads and has had nearly 500 downloads in the last week alone. Though it doesn't boast numbers like the new games, it's holding up pretty well.

Though some may be put off by the game's age, I like that it tends to take up substantially less space than newer games in a similar vein. As a casual chess player, I appreciate 3D Chess, as it's getting increasingly difficult to find someone to play against in person. It's a fun little game that will have old hats like me smiling fondly and newbies giggling at our old tech.

If you're a fan of chess, old school PC games, or perhaps just want to glance at what PC gaming used to be like, I highly recommend downloading 3D Chess and giving it a try. It's a great way to learn to play, and the AI isn't bad, especially for the game's age. It can also help you brush up or keep abridged.
